Volunteers are an essential part of Whirinaki Whare Taonga — from our gallery minders to ushers, and supporters.

Why Volunteer with Us?

Volunteering is a fantastic way to:

  • Connect with others and make new friends
  • Learn and share valuable skills
  • Support the arts and give back to your community

While this is an unpaid role, our volunteers enjoy some wonderful perks:

  • See numerous shows for free while ushering
  • A chance to be part of a vibrant arts community
  • A complimentary Friends of Whirinaki membership, with great benefits and discounts

Our Volunteer ushers help during shows in the Gillies Group Theatre, which seats up to 210 people. On show nights, you’ll welcome guests, help them to their seats, and act as a deputy fire warden. Please note that you will need to be physically fit to walk up and down our Theatre stairs
