Upper Hutt artist Helen Lenihan likes to work in both 2D and 3D. For her latest series of work, she combines ceramics with found objects to produce intricate and diverse pieces, this work amalgams her love of animals and feelings. She often starts work with no preconceived visual outcome and lets the work manifest itself through multiple layers of materials.

Manimals come from a world of their own making, part animal, part object with a little bit of anthropomorphic qualities added. It might be the sparkle in their eye, their smile, or that they look like they are wearing a woollen jumper. You can imagine coming across one of them at the edge of the bush, just on dusk...
