FLOOR
TALK ABOUT STEINWAY
MICHAEL
ASHBY & CLARE DERBY
Well
known piano technician Michael Ashby of Piano House in Wellington
and local music teacher and Expressions piano fund campaigner Clare
Derby are offering a floor talk for piano enthusiasts at Expressions
on Friday 14 November commencing at 11am.
Entry
to the floor talk is free, and bookings are not necessary.
Mr
Ashby trained at the Steinway factory in Germany , his presentation
and demonstration will help demystify the role of a tuner and technician
for the new Steinway Model D concert grand piano.
Mrs
Derby says the floor talk is the final event in the series of piano
focused performances and discussions that were planned to welcome
Expressions’ new Steinway piano that arrived in September.
“This
talk is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who is interested in
pianos, or plays the piano to find out more about what goes on inside,
and to ask questions” she said.
“There
has been a lot of interest from the general community about what
makes a Steinway piano so special”.
“We
are delighted that the Ascot Cinema has also joined in the celebrations
and have sourced the popular film festival documentary Note by Note
specially to support the piano launch.”
Note
by Note is a feature-length independent documentary that follows
the creation of a Steinway Concert Grand #L1037 from forest floor
to concert hall.
It
explores the relationship between musician and instrument, chronicles
the manufacturing process, and illustrates what makes each Steinway
unique in this age of mass production.
The
film will have three screenings at Ascot Cinema on 14, 15 and 16
November, for session times and to purchase film tickets contact
the Ascot on telephone 528 5590.
