walking - that teach him to always shoot for the moon!
Tale

adversity that is bound to leave you begging for more.

SENTIMENTAL
JOURNEY
"The
audience enjoyed an untroubled, funny, simpler world, tinged
with nostalgia, sustained by Geoff Robinson’s subtle
balancing of style and substance and excellent singing"
- Lindis Taylor, Dominion Post, 18 June 2007
Don’t
miss Wellington’s most innovative vocal ensemble, Nota
Bene. Their Wellington performance of Sentimental Journey
was a sell-out, and the choir now brings this ‘old-time
Saturday night request show’ to Upper Hutt’s Expressions
Arts and Entertainment Centre.
Geoff
Robinson, from Radio New Zealand’s Morning Report, will
guide you on a Sentimental Journey around the world, with
music by Gershwin, Cole Porter, Debussy, Vaughan Williams
and many more.
Directed
by Jacqueline Coats (director for the popular Nimby Opera
production of Janacek's The Cunning Little Vixen) the show
also features singer Joanne Hodgson and pianist Julie Coulson
in a collection of jazz standards, with Irish fiddle tunes
from Oscar Bullock.
"This
concert will appeal to lovers of choral, jazz and folk music
alike. Our audience can sit back, relax and let us transport
them to another time and place," says musical director
Christine Argyle, a presenter with Radio New Zealand Concert.
Nota
Bene combines the world’s best vocal music with a theatrical
twist. Its singers include many former members of the New
Zealand National Youth Choir as well as current members of
the Voices NZ Chamber Choir.

JOHN
CHEN - piano
Award-winning
New Zealand pianist, John Chen is building an impressive international
career from his current base in Los Angeles where he studies
at the Colburn School of Performing Arts. His Expressions
programme ranges from a Gallic first half of Poulenc's miniature
Melancolie, Debussy's Images of 1894, and Ravel's monumental
Gaspard de la nuit. This contrasts with Beethoven's 'Late
Period' Sonata Op 101 and, from Tchaikovsky's Six morceaux,
the Theme and Variation Op 19.

THE
PIONEERS
Ex-pat
Kiwis The Pioneers have wowed audiences in Britain with their
multi media portrayal of their ancestors' journeys to New
Zealand. Now, they're about to repeat that journey themselves,
bringing their acclaimed show to this country.
Using
original acoustic music, texts by leading New Zealand poets,
story telling and character portrayal, The Pioneers, tell
the stories of three of their ancestors who travelled from
England and Ireland to a very different New Zealand from the
one they had imagined.
Set
against a backdrop of stunning New Zealand scenery and rarely
viewed archival images, this powerful poignant show features
the combined talents of vocalist Angeline Conaghan, Ben Brewer
on guitar and David Leahy on double bass. Interweaving the
stories they heard growing up in new Zealand with poetry and
song, the trio brings to life the experiences of early European
settlers attempting to create a place they had imagined.

Mahana is a musician with songs of grit and tears pulsing
through her veins. In London to chase a dream far away from
New Zealand , she is presented with a diary that confirms
her longing for home. As the lines between her past and present

choices about where her dreams really lie. A play about Aroha.
