ANTIQUES
ROGUE SHOW
The
boys are back !!!!
Due
to an overwhelming response, demand and down right pleading the
team that brought you Geezers and the record breaking Antiques Road
show tour of 07, head back on the road!
In
the tradition of the venerable BBC Classic “Antiques Road Show”
Patrick Duffy and his equally antiquated side kick once again showcase
their artistic and sensitive sides.
Audience
goers are invited into the genteel world of stately manors, country
fetes, and local women’s institutes as they bring along their valuable
family antiques and treasured heirlooms…or the awful Toby mug they
got from cousin Raelene for their wedding and haven’t the heart
to throw out.
Under
the guise of British antique experts and with the help of the antique’s
current owner, will unfold the mystery and intrigue of the selected
piece in a way that has no particular relevance to real history,
artistic appreciation or any worthwhile knowledge whatsoever.
The
information gathered, mixed with the imagination of two of New Zealand’s
greatest improvisers is used to create a theatrical and comedic
improvised world in which we see the antique’s history brought to
life.
We
promise that though the history, knowledge and valuations would
be completely bogus the comedy would be 100% genuine.

LIBERACE,
LIVE FROM HEAVEN
The
Lee Liberace Story
Starring
UK's leading pianist - entertainer - actor Bobby Crush.
The
hilarious critically acclaimed London West End hit musical comedy
- written and directed by Julian Woolford.
"Liberace
arrives at the gates of Heaven and God tells him that he needs to
play a little Gershwin before the angels decide if he gets in or
not. It may sound like the opening of a joke but in fact, it is
a synopsis of Julian Woolford’s latest play, which essentially offers
piano entertainer Bobby Crush the chance to do his impersonation
of the legendary Liberace.
For
many years, Liberace was the highest paid entertainer in the world,
providing performances that were as spectacular as they were gaudy.
A flamboyant personality supported by a strong, musical technique,
Liberace appealed to audiences around the world, until his sudden
demise due to complications from AIDS in 1987.

WELLINGTON
INTERNATIONAL UKULELE ORCHESTRA
This
winter, the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra embarks on
their most epic tour yet – a Tour of Wellington!
Bringing
musical heat to the chilled bones of Wellingtonians, the unprecedented
tour will see the capital city’s beloved music-comedy ensemble take
their bonsai instruments to six corners of the great Wellington
region.
The
orchestra’s exhaustive tour of their hometown will take in theatres
and town halls in Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Porirua, Paekakariki and
Paraparumu, finishing with a standing rock’n’roll gig in Wellington
City in late August.
Having
been out on the road for much of the past year, the orchestra is
bringing home to Wellington some new and amazing on-stage tricks
that are sure to inspire and delight. And for those contemplating
which show to attend, band member Andy Morley-Hall advises “Every
show will be different, so come to all of them. But if you don’t
like to stand for two hours, then come to the first five shows only.”
Book
now to secure your seats for this winter’s hottest event involving
small musical instruments and epic onstage antics.

SIMON
MARK
MARVELLOUS
BLIND SPOTS
Expressions
is delighted to present the photographic exhibition Marvellous
Blind Spots, by Wellington artist Simon Mark. Mark has a rare
ability to find beauty, and vivid displays of colour, in ordinary
scenes. A neon sign; a basketball court; rows of public seating;
shipping containers – all of these ordinary scenes take on new significance
in Mark’s photographs. Born in Upper Hutt , Mark’s latest body of
work includes local scenes as well as international images for which
he is well known.
Mark’s
time spent living and travelling overseas continues to inform his
art, which challenges traditional travel photography conventions
and New Zealand photography’s traditional association with the ‘scenic’
and ‘picturesque’.
Marvellous
Blind Spots, Mark’s first exhibition at Expressions, features
a compelling selection of recent photographs. These dynamic and
cosmopolitan images are unique in New Zealand photography – a discipline
traditionally dominated by local subject matter.
Mark chooses marginal areas and
uses the lens to look beyond the subject and give the viewer a fresh
and original view of the ordinary. His images are varied and include
landscapes and interiors, street scenes and rural places, long views
and close-ups. Marvellous Blind Spots represents Simon Mark’s
concerns, challenging audiences to consider the politics of observation
and place, with a profound sense of colour and composition.
