TOWER
TUTUS ON TOUR 2009
Travels
to 49 centres, making ballet accessible to those in smaller towns
up and down the country, and also allows some dancers to return
to the communities where they first discovered dance.
The
Royal New Zealand Ballet dancers will split again into two groups,
with one touring the North Island and one the South Island. Performing
everywhere from schools to community halls.
In
2009 the RNZB presents four works, ranging from classical to contemporary.
Mysterious and sexy, Christopher Hampson's Saltarello changes pace
seamlessly from subdued elegance to explosive energy. Currently
Under Investigation by Australian Dance Theatre's Garry Stewart
is a fusion of dance styles - energetic and challenging. Now based
overseas, former RNZB dancer Andrew Simmons returns to premiere
his work Through to You. The work takes its inspiration from the
music composition `Spiegel In Spiegel', which loosely translates
as 'mirror in the mirror'. The fourth piece is Holberg Suite choreographed
by Ballet Master Greg Horsman. It puts the tutu into the tour, and
explores themes of speed and precision.
