concert grand piano

fundraising campaign

Upper Hutt ’s Genesis Energy Theatre at Expressions has been established as a major classical performance venue in the Wellington area through our popular concert series Classical Expressions.

Demand for concerts by artists of international repute at Expressions is demonstrated by consistent sell out performances, and constant requests from enthusiastic audiences from throughout the region.

All this and with no piano of our own!

Currently Expressions is borrowing a Television New Zealand grand piano from Avalon Studios. While we are very grateful to TVNZ for its generous gesture, this has to be seen as a temporary measure: given the nature of TVNZ’s operation there are occasions when the piano is unavailable at short notice and it could even be moved out of the Wellington region. For this reason, a long-term solution needs to be found.

Expressions Trust has established a Concert Grand Piano Fundraising committee with the goal of raising $250,000 for a piano in the next two years.

New Zealand pianist, Michael Houstoun, has accepted our invitation to be patron of the piano fund. Michael is this country’s pre-eminent pianist and one of New Zealand’s most successful artists ever, being a prize winner in the Van Clibum, Leeds and Tchaikovsky International Piano Competitions.

In order to attract the finest national and international concert pianists to perform in the Genesis Energy Theatre at Expressions Arts & Entertainment Centre on a regular basis we need to provide the best possible piano for their performances.

Community organisations, businesses, Trusts and individuals can help us achieve our target by attending fundraising events and by becoming a donor.

All donations gratefully accepted. If you can help in other ways please contact us.
